BERYL variety AQUAMARINE on ALBITE
Shigar Valley, Baltistan, Pakistan
10 x 9 x 6 cm
This specimen features a beautiful, razor-sharp, highly lustrous, translucent to transparent, light-blue, single crystal of aquamarine resting upon a plate of well-formed, off-white albite crystals. One is drawn to this aquamarine crystal because of the overall simplicity of its crystal form (a hexagonal, prismatic crystal terminated in the pinacoid), its glassy luster, and its alluring sky-blue color.
The complex, granitic gem pegmatite deposits in the rugged mountains of the Shigar Valley in Pakistan have for several decades been producing world-class crystal specimens of the beryl variety aquamarine and other gem species. This specimen would be an important addition to any advanced mineral collection.
