This specimen is one of the finest rose quartz specimens our company has handled in many years. The specimen is composed of a flattened, floater, doubly-terminated, very light-smoky quartz crystal which has been partially overgrown by a "ribbon" of large, sharp, lustrous, transluscent to transparent, medium-pink rose quartz crystals. The aesthetics of this specimen are simply breath-taking!
Truly well-formed crystals of rose quartz are quite uncommon and thus highly-prized by collectors. The finest rose quartz specimens come from Brazil and the top locality in Brazil for rose quartz is Lavra Berilo Branco, the Sapucaia rose quartz mine. The primary production from the mine occurred from 1959 to 1961. Superb rose quartz crystals frequently forming aesthetic clusters, fans, sprays and rings on smoky or citrine quartz were recovered. While local miners occasionally explored the Sapucaia rose quartz locality for minerals from 1961 to 1991, very few specimens were encountered. The mine has been totally abandoned since 1991. This is an important and beautiful specimen worthy of any fine mineral collection!
