A classic beauty … this specimen has great aesthetics! It features sharp, lustrous, green apophyllite crystals to 3 cm in length which have formed a large radiating cluster of crystals perfectly positioned on a basalt matrix which has been carpeted with bright white, 1 mm size heulandite crystals.
The specimen was recovered in the 1980’s from the famous quarries at Pashan Hills. The world’s finest examples of green apophyllite were found at this locality. The Pashan Hills were closed to mining activities in 1989 due to the encroachment of urban development.
Pashan Hills apophyllite specimens are highly prized because of their pleasing green color and gemmy, pyramidal crystal tips. Interestingly, the intense green color is caused by a vanadium content of approximately 1600 ppm.
This is one of the most attractive, well-balanced apophyllite specimens that the Collector's Edge has handled in the last decade. It was acquired from an important, private mineral collection in the Midwest USA. If you are building your collection around colorful, aesthetic specimens you will want to strongly consider this piece.
