This is one of the finest, cabinet-sized, native silver specimens ever offered by the Collector’s Edge. It is an extremely aesthetic and important wire-silver specimen from Kongsberg, Norway which was formerly in the Dave Matak Collection.
The mines of the Kongsberg area are widely acknowledged to have produced the world’s finest native silver specimens. It is estimated that 1,350 metric tons of silver was extracted between the discovery of silver ore veins in 1623 and 1957, the last year of mining in the Kongsberg area.
This beautiful native silver specimen features numerous, bright, thin to thick-ropy wires of silver. Associated with the silver wires are small pieces of crystalline white calcite. The piece displays well from multiple viewing angles. The specimen comes with a custom acrylic base. This is a truly superb mineral specimen.
