Benitoite Gem Mine, San Benito County, California
The Collector's Edge Minerals Inc., acquired this fine mineral specimen in 2010 in a small collection of choice specimens. It is an outstanding example of the benitoite specimens from the Benitoite Gem Mine in San Benito County, California.
The Gem Mine deposit in San Benito County is famous as the only source for the world-class specimens of the rare and beautiful mineral benitoite. In 2000, The Collector's Edge Minerals Inc. purchased the mine to process the elluvium for loose gemstones and to explore for additional underground benitoite reserves. Large, gemmy, triangular, cornflower-blue crystals of benitoite, sometimes with lustrous black neptunite crystals, are treasured in major museums and private collections around the world.
This specimen also features the rare mineral joaquinite. The tabular honey-yellow crystals measure up to 1 mm and are aesthetically salted over the natrolite covered matrix.
John Veevart uses a photograph of this specimen in his advertising. This is a great opportunity for a collector to add a quality specimen from this classic American locality.
