RHODOCHROSITE on QUARTZ
13 x 9 x 4.5 cm
A superb, collector quality rhodochrosite specimen from the world famous Sweet Home Mine. This specimen was discovered in September of 1996 in crystal-lined pocket named “Hedgehog”. The pocket was so named because the pocket walls were completely covered with small, needle-like quartz crystals resembling the quills or spines of this small mammal. This specimen features numerous reddish-pink, lustrous rhombohedral crystals of rhodochrosite reaching 1.4 cm on edge which have grown on a matrix coated with clear to milky quartz crystals measuring up to 2 cm in length. A very fine aesthetic mineral specimen!
The Sweet Home Mine was permanently closed in October of 2004. This is a very aesthetic specimen from one of the most important mineral specimen producing localities of the last 100 years!
