A very pretty mineral specimen and an unusual crystal habit for manganoan calcite, this specimen features medium pink "bundles" of manganoan calcite crystals to 2cm in length, which when clustered together resemble couliflower florets. the manganoan calcite crystals have grown on a crystallized matrix of tiny milky quartz crystals. The specimen is very aestheticallly balanced with the largest "floret" being a focal point that is centered at the top of the specimen.

The mine workings in the Pachapaqui mining district are at elevationsfrom 11,500 feet to over 13,500 feet. Craggy snow-covered peaks and large glaciers make the area one of the more starkly beautiful places in Peru. Some of the mines in the district have been worked since the Spanish colonial times and many are still operational today. Manganoan calcite is found filling vugs up to 20 cm in diameter in fissure veins and replacement deposits in the district. This specimen comes with a custom-made acrylic stand.
