Tucson Show Report
< Back to News

Well...another Tucson show has come and gone!!! Three weeks zips by like the wind when you are there. When we first arrived the Inn Suites looked like it had been hit by a hurricane! The hotel decided to prune all the palm trees just as the show was starting! The entire courtyard area was knee deep in palm fronds!!! To add insult to injury they were renovating the pool too!!!

Suite 170 & 171 of the Inn Suites is our main hub at the show for the three weeks.

We set up 4 cases out in the main room and 1 case in the back room for our "high end" specimens.

We debuted our new topaz specimens from the Maynard's Claim at the Inn Suites. we set up a nice display in the front case which was quickly picked for the best specimens! Here are a few photos of the better specimens we had to offer.

The clusters with the pseudomorphed hematite a. garnet and bixbyite associations sold very well. A lot of this quality from this locality has not been offered at Tucson in many years! There are still a few good pieces left. If you are interested please send me an email at richard@collectorsedge.com for pictures of what we have available.

At the Westward Look resort we debuted a new find of allargentum with dyscrasite, schachnerite, and native silver from the Bouismas Mine in the Bou Azzer District of Morocco. Here are a few photos of the interesting and rare specimens.

We also debuted some fantastic new tourmaline specimens from Paprok, Afghanistan. The quality and condition of the specimens we were able to offer were the best seen at the show. Here are a few photos of the specimens we had on display.

This specimen was my personal favorite!

Here are a few other killers!!!

Our booth at the main show was a knockout as always. Steve Behling spent many hours mapping out everything down to the placement of the flower arrangments. Here are a few photos of the booth just before the opening day rush!

Very shortly after the doors opened our booth was elbow to elbow with people vying for specimens.

Show attendees seemed more abundent and upbeat than last year. Sales were very good. We added a little spice to our booth by inviting Fred Holabird to display some of his Americana and gold ingots.

He displayed an ingot from the USS Central America similar to this one for $250,000.00.

We also had a couple wood cabinets on display from Darrin Westermin that were a hit with the dealers and attendees as well.

If you are looking to buy a cabinet to display you collection please feel free to send me an email. I will put you in contact with Darrin. He can customize the cabinets to meet any need.

For the entire Collector's Edge team I would like to thank James Lewis for all of his help at the show. Even after working with Graham out at the Maynard's Claim he helped us when we became a little short staffed just before the show started.

One of the great specimens that was the first to sell at the show was an emerald on quartz from the Kagem Mine in Zambia. It really has everything a collector could want in aesthetics!

It was on display at the main show in the case of the proud new owner!

Well...that about wraps up our Tucson show. We are all trying to recover from the hectic pace of the show. I think Graham had the best idea!!!

Boogie on dude!
